There are services and repairs that are often performed for Willow Valley residents on a compensation by donation basis for labor, and reimbursement for any items required for the repair.
The woodshops do not normally:
- Construct entirely new furniture or cabinetry.
- Strip and refinish any wood tables, cabinets, chairs, etc.
- Perform repairs in apartments, homes, etc., this is a Willow Valley maintenance responsibility. They are bonded, insured, etc.
The woodshops do:
- Repair loose chair legs, spindles, arms.
- Repair and rehang damaged cabinet and furniture doors, (only in the shop)
- Repair broken/damaged cabinet and furniture drawers.
- Spot repair of furniture finish (depending on the extent of damage, location, and color to match)
- Sharpen chisels, wood plane blades, and knives.
- Fabricate shelving for cabinets and furniture.
- Repair loose, undamaged upholstery on chair seats, backs, and arms.
- Repair picture frames.
- Repair broken/damaged small furniture.
- Assemble furniture that comes in kits, I.e. small desks, TV tables
- Drill holes, minor painting, etc.
- Give expertise, and we would be happy to discuss thoughts, and opinions regarding a variety of most wood, cabinet, furniture, finishing, assembly, and sharpening topics.
Rates for suggested donations:
- Generally $10 per hour
- Knife, chisel, or plane blade sharpening generally $3 per blade.

- Contact your local woodshop and speak to a woodshop member about the work
- Fill out a work order
